who am i?
My name is Esther Sung Yun Kang, or 강승연.
In the Korean language, your name is written out ‘Last Name’ then ‘First Name’. Without my English first name, my translated name would be Kang Sung Yun, or the acronym “ksy”. Hence, my website name is estherksy.
I’m a self-taught UX designer with some experience in front-end development. I completed Flatiron School’s Software Engineering bootcamp during the height of the COVID pandemic (Summer 2020), but I realized that I have a deeper passion for UX/UI. The more I worked on contracts and personal projects, I recognized that not all websites are designed with the users in mind. I seek to incorporate accessibility and responsiveness to allow anyone and everyone have access to the same content.
I love to travel, dance, eat, and sleep. Chasing sunsets by the water brings me peace (my favorite spots: Kirkland, WA; the Han River in Seoul, South Korea; and the Palos Verdes cliffs in CA). I also love cats, though I am quite allergic to them. I have two precious black cats who have completely opposite personalities and both of which I adore.
I am currently based in the DMV area (and no, not the department of motor vehicles). Open to [preferably remote or hybrid] roles in the DMV, Seoul, or Los Angeles areas.
